Last week saw us out and about on the North Norfolk coast, which will be a twice monthly fixture at least. On Saturday and Sunday we explored the Burnhams, took in the site of the Branodunum Roman Fort, basked in glorious sunshine and soaked up the views from Barrow Common – you can see for miles and miles. Amazing relax at the Burnham Deepdale Cafe and a lively buzz at the campsite for anyone feeling intrepid enough to pitch a tent! (Yes, that included one of our very own walkers! Love that spirit!)
Monday saw rain, rain and more rain. A massive well done to everyone who Kick Started their week down at Whitlingham at 9.30am. There were six of us who were not to be defeated by the grey murky conditions – we now know a quick lap round the broad and up into the woods can warm the chilliest of hands. Plus we love the snowdrops down there.
On Tuesday, the weather was not in our favour (again) for the Blakeney to Cley Circular walk, but did not dampen spirits as we set off into grizzle. That kind of weather can be (and was) exhilarating, especially in such a scenic and beautiful place. We meandered though the lokes and lanes of both villages, along tiny footpaths passing by flint cottages, and then hit the Coastal Path for a Gear 3 gallop back to Blakeney. The Grey Seal Cafe was the perfect pitstop for hot drinks and it felt more like Apres Ski than cuppa tea.
Wednesday found us luxuriating at Blickling Hall. We love the awesome things you see, from turrets to towers, pyramids to owl boxes, and it always seems like we have the entire park to ourselves. Also best decaf coffee ever in the Muddy Boots Cafe! Come and see…
Walking is all about well-being and feeling good about yourself. We have fast walks, workout walks, longer walks and we also have gentle walks too. Gentle / Well Being Walks are great for anyone concerned about pace and distance so on Thursday, we basked in the sunshine on the UEA meadows and enjoyed a relaxing paced walk and talk.
Brisk winds hit us hard at Caistor St Edmund on Friday, but not to be deterred we marched up those hills and down them again, and soon came across the usual Nordic walking issue, wearing too many layers! The wind did not relent over in Eaton and was so sharp that after a brisk mini warm up, we set off on our Feel Fit and Fab Friday walk asap just to get warm. Will we miss these challenging icy conditions in the summer? Will we wish for a wind chill as another summer’s day makes us thirsty and hot?
The Saturday Adventure walk took us out and along the Wherryman’s Way! Marvellous to walk in the Broads, especially when the sun is shining and the snowdrops have come out in force. Our Bramerton route is a total favourite as there is so much variety on the walk. We set off along the Yare and then took a gorgeous path up and around Surlingham. After climbing up a grassy lane, we took in views of the Yare Valley and beyond, before heading over surprisingly hilly footpaths towards Bramerton Woods and Common. Nothing beats walking in great company and then all enjoying a drink in the newly refurbed Waters’ Edge pub.
The INTENSIVE Learn to NW course on Sunday was a full-house, 6 new walkers being put through their paces and gears in a 3 hour intensive session. This is the second one we have run, and both have been really effective and fun. Plus we made the longest ‘train’ with our poles so tune in to our Facebook page to see how that worked!
Lots of amazing new walkers in the process of learning to Nordic Walk and about to get their Passports, or newly graduated. It’s such a pleasure meeting so many wonderful people and growing our Norfolk Nordic Walking community. We all share a love for being outside and for laughter. Definitely walks are always filled with fantastic conversations and great chats. There’s the usual groan when the photo opportunity raises its head, or when Camomile tea is on offer, BUT it’s great to see connections being made between everyone. Nothing beats a sociable and fun adventure walk, come rain or shine, so start booking up and make Nordic walking the solution to your fitness resolution!
Please please please follow us at NORFOLK NORDIC WALKING and interact with the page! It’s so lovely when YOU add in comments as it creates a lively buzz amongst us and helps our Nordic community develop and GROW…
