LUCKY 13 EMBARK ON HALF MARATHON…

TEAM OF 13 TO WALK 13 MILES…

13 may be unlucky for some, but for those of us walking in next Saturday’s Positive Steps Half Marathon Event on the North Norfolk Coast,  13 symbolises achievement, focus, endeavour, hard work, commitment and drive.  There are 13 of us in the Norfolk Nordic Walking Team walking 13 miles (add on a 0.1 is you want to be really exact) along with 400 other runners and walkers (250: half marathoners / 150: marathoners). Over those long, hot summer months, we have gradually upped our mileages on the longer distance walks, weathering blisters and all manner of sock/shoe issues, experimenting with snack options for mile 8 energy boosts (Protein balls vs hard boiled egg?) and working out if waist belt works better than back pack for carrying the all-essential kit plus hydration.  Now, we’re primed and ready! We all know we can do it (our last training walk was 12 miles and we aced it!) so this week’s all about striking a balance between resting and keeping the ball rolling (aka legs moving). The ultimate objective is to arrive at the starting line feeling calm and confident – ready to enjoy a 13.1 mile walk with a team of fabulous people…

TOP TIP: Don’t leave it too late to book!  These events do get full and then you go on the waiting list. (Currently there are 100 people on next week’s Reserve List).
