John took up Nordic walking in February 2018 and in November 2018 trained to become an Accredited Walk Leader with Nordic Walking UK. He is also an experienced Norwich Tour Guide, so you may see him around the city as well as leading Nordic walks! His role is to compliment the Norfolk Nordic Walking Team and help keep everyone safe, together, moving, smiling and enjoying the Great Outdoors! In his own words:
“I have been Nordic Walking for nearly two years now and I can honestly say it has been the best sport I have ever been involved in. I was never particularly athletic as a child and never succeeded in any of them despite trying hard. Nordic Walking has got me active again and I thoroughly enjoy being out in all weathers.
Since I retired and took up Nordic walking, I have become much fitter and healthier and my weight has dropped considerably. I have now completed three half marathons (13.1 miles) and a number of sponsored walks. By the summer of 2020 I should have completed another half marathon and an 18-mile challenge.
In 2018 Rebecca asked me to become a walk leader, and after training, I do 3 or 4 walks a month, leading group members of all abilities on walks around our amazing countryside.
The group is amazing. The friendliness and camaraderie make the sessions pass by very quickly especially if there is coffee (and perhaps a slice of cake!) afterwards!
Thank you Rebecca for expanding my horizons beyond what I thought possible!”
