Diane Saywack – Accredited NWUK Walk Leader

Diane joined the Norfolk Nordic Walking Team in February 2020.  Prior to completing her NWUK Walk Leader training in Dorset,  Diane was not only a regular walker in the group, but also earned her stripes as unofficial NNW baker extraordinaire!  Our weekly walks at Blickling Hall always end in Muddy Boots Cafe, and those Wednesday gatherings are made complete when Diane showcases her latest tasters! Particularly memorable were her Nordic ginger wo/men cookies (complete with poles aka cocktail sticks and purple icing) made for Halloween!  In her own words:

“I took up Nordic walking because of the way it was described, as a total body workout which meant I could combine walking, which I love, with added exercise.  It felt awkward at first, but it soon became second nature – to the point where normal walking now feels weird.  But, totally unexpectedly, it was the social aspect of Nordic walking which totally won me over.  Before I knew it, I was doing at least four walks a week, enjoying being out of doors (after years of working indoors) and the camaraderie of the group – especially the apres-walk cake ‘n’ coffee.  The next challenge seemed to be getting training as a Walk Leader so I could be a bit more useful in the group, and I did my training in Dorset shortly before lockdown..   I’m very much a rookie WL so I have a lot to learn, but I am looking forward to doing so.  Who knew that retirement would present new experiences and challenges?”
